Park-Wooddale In May 2005, our company moved to Colony Park Church (CP) for long-term residence. (The move was necessitated by a major construction project in our former home base in the Edina Community Center.) While we've been overwhelmingly satisfied with our 2.67 years in the building to date, our future here has been uncertain since last summer. In August, a major transition occured within CP membership: all four elders and four of the five staff members resigned. After about half of the congregation left, two teams were formed from the remaining membership (a temporary board of elders and a Transition Team) in order to explore the next steps for CP. Paul Arneberg served on both teams, chaired by fellow CP member and Jughead dad, Tom Richter. After months of deliberation, the teams unanimously recommended to the CP membership to give all assets, land, and facilities to Wooddale Church in Eden Prairie. On Jan. 13, the CP membership affirmed this recommendation by an overwhelming majority: 92.5%. On Feb. 4, Wooddale's membership approved their own elders' recommendation to accept the gift of CP's facilities in order to start a 2nd campus, tentatively called Wooddale Church Edina. Included in their plans are about $2 million in needed facility renovations: new systems (heating/cooling, alarm, sprinkler), bathrooms, and exterior repairs. The legal transfer is expected within weeks, and CP's 92 year history will culminate in two celebration events March 29-30. The good news for JH is that Wooddale has guaranteed our unabated schedule for clubs & camps through the 2008 calendar year. After that, it is hopeful that we'll continue in 2009 and beyond, but since we'll be under the authority of a new landlord, we'll need to make any and all adjustments as needed in compliance with the needs & vision of the new church campus. Having been closely involved with the transition process, Paul says, "I feel very confident about what this acquisition means both for the Edina community in general and for our hopeful long-term juggling home specifically." For the third year, Juggle Jam will be held at Richfield HS auditorium. Whereas our Winter Showcase is about opportunity, Juggle Jam only allows the top 6-7 acts. You must apply and meet the pre-audition performance requirements by April 4. See Paul for an application. JJ10 Ticket packets will be available Feb. 11. Selling is not required, but prizes offer an incentive to recruit big audiences. CLUB
SPOTLIGHT: Thurs. Rec. Kinetic, loud, enthusiastic, skill-building...Thursday Rec. is a kind of quintessential after school activity for nearly 30 (pre) teens. Of particular demographic note is that this club has far-reaching academic and geographical diversity, with youth attending eight different schools in five different school districts/private schools, and traveling as far as Roseville and Mendota Heights to attend club. The leadership team of Scott, Ricky and Colin is strong, freeing up Paul to work on behind-the-scenes tasks when needed. In JJ9, these kids juggled as Elvises; this year, the British Invasion comes to JJ10 in a tribute to the Beatles. JH Community News
