“The Heart
Behind the Hype”

Wow. Even in my own often idealized expectations, I never would have expected, let alone predicted, the recognition that JUGHEADS has received thus far in the year 2000. Two Edina Sun Current articles. Feature article in the Star Tribune. Three times on live TV. “The Flamingo Award,” “Excellence in Education,” I.J.A. Teams Bronze, three joggling world records, and “The Indiana Jones of Juggling.” Very affirming to say the least! However....if the individual kids & parents don’t experience the everday values & benefits of JUGHEADS, then all the awards & publicity are reduced to nothing but good marketing--or good luck.
If, on the other hand, our program is just as successful if one removes all awards & recognition, then the benefits are real. I am very grateful that nearly 100% of the jugglers from last year have now returned, casting their votes of confidence that the heart of JUGHEADS isn’t about being in the paper or receiving awards--it’s about having fun, nurturing friendships, reinforcing values, and being developed as youth.
