JUGHEADS

[Back to Paul's Platform main selection page] March 2002 “Adult Decision”
I must admit that I have been surprised at the responses to last month's JOURNAL Platform, "Catch-22." I appreciate the parents' genuine concerns over my evident symptoms of burn-out, and their desire to see me continue this thing called JUGHEADS. First off, let me clarify that last month's article was not an omen foretelling the demise of the program; rather, I felt the need to let it be known that I have been mentally tinkering with two programmatic changes: specifically, subcontracting for evening juggling clubs and taking off larger portions of the summer. Therefore, "pulling back temporarily or permanently" meant just that: pulling back, not leaving. While I still would like to consider ways for me to have more outlets from my heavy schedule directly related to JUGHEADS, I have made an "adult decision" in the past couple of weeks: I will adjust my attitude and my personal habits to accommodate my schedule, and I will like it. JUGHEADS is my mission. I may get tired day to day, but who doesn't? I have committed to getting more sleep and more exercise, and by so doing, pace myself against weariness. I may still
pull back or subcontract evenings within a year, but my calling to this
unique vocation only grows when I hear from parents about the difference
it makes in their kids' lives. That's why I got into vocational youth
work in the first place nearly 10 years ago, and thay's why I'll stay..
