you do not find a way...
On June 1st, I celebrate 10 years of working with youth in Edina. What better way than to get our core youth together on May 31st for a big end-of-the-year party? Far from using this occasion for self-aggrandizement, I liken it to a milestone for reflection. This particular work with youth is uniquely tri-fold: recreation supervisor; specialized athletic coach; and performance director. If pressed for my favorite aspect, I will say without hesitation that its the recreational aspect. Ill expand that phrase to say relational recreation, for its in the relationships that I receive my greatest rewards. Parties, gift money, records and Juggle Jams are nice, but if Im not developing youth along with my own character, the work has all been in vain, to quote Gimli the Dwarf. Ill
end this school year with yet another quote from my all-time favorite
movie. If you do not find a way, no one will, said Galadriel
the Elf to Frodo Baggins. I often feel this burden in leading JUGHEADS,
knowing that its a unique mix of talents, passion and support that
make this program possible. As long as I have strength left in me, empowered
by Gods grace (Isaiah 40:30-31), I will continue to do just that.
