"Diverse Membership"

I'd like to propose a different definition of "diversity" than what we hear in academic and political circles. Academicians and politicians generally apply the word "diversity" to race, sex, national origin, religion, etc. However, the oft-overlooked truth of humanity is that where two or more human beings are gathered, there is diversity. By this I mean that the word can (and may) be applied to personality, skills, tastes, habits, quirks, idiosyncracies, dreams, hopes, and the like. If the adage "beauty is only skin deep" is true, then striving for demographic diversity merely for diversity's sake is equally shallow. I've always believed that JH parallels the ideals of the United States herself: all are welcome, but all must work and assimilate in order to appreciate--and contribute to--the common history, culture and values which is the basis for our success. JH truly stands for equal opportunity, and I invite the diversity of each kid to shine through as they maximize their unique talents, incredible potential, and personal integrity.
