"Designed to Reach"

The interim pastor of Colony Park Church gave an encouraging message just a few weeks ago. Dr. Harvey Martin told the congregation, “You don’t have to reach everybody; but there are certain people in life you are designed to reach.” That is a refreshing statement for me, because being a thin-skinned, sensitive person, I often feel that all people should like me and relate to me equally or else I must be the problem. On the contrary, since every human being is unique, it’s literally impossible for one man to be all things to even a small cross-section of humanity, such as we have in JUGHEADS. There are ways in which character traits such as love, loyalty, and dependabilty can benefit everyone, but there are personality traits that will click with some people and fall flat with others. Regardless of my success in relating to each individual Jughead, I take solace in the fact that this program is completely elective; no one is coerced to belong. In that regard, JH itself is designed for a certain type of kid, and I am privileged to hear many stories of how this particular program in this partciular time of life for many particular Jugheads is, well, indispensable. It’s a joy to behold, and I am expectant of more benefits of this program existing “for such a time as this.”
