JUGHEADS

[Back to Paul's Platform main selection page] May 2005 "The
Show/Company Must Go On"
The old adage of live theatre is "The show must go on." This applies to actors who are ill; sets that are malfunctioning; technical elements gone awry; small audience turnout; etc. For JH, however, our show is actually a minor aspect of our year compared to the daily workings of our company. Despite the hundreds of collective hours put in by our Parent Committee, student officers, club rehearsals, audition panel, costumers, tech. crew, music editors, and photographers (to name a few areas), all of our efforts at presenting a professional-quality Juggle Jam are really only a reflection of what's going on behind the scenes at our daily clubs. Far from being let down when Juggle Jam 7 passed into history, many Jugheads renewed their enthusiasm for the art and sport of juggling along with their dedication to each other in this unlikely community that is now headed for a new home base. Just like a dedicated actor who will not let down his fans, the Jugheads are here for each other, and I anticipate great things in our new space as we transition there over Memorial Day weekend. It should
be very gratifying to everyone from the Arnebergs to the parents to the
Jugheads to the community at large who gave so much to the production
that was Juggle Jam 7 that contrary to other casts, we don't have to strike
the set and part ways just because the final curtain has been drawn. This
cast will go on, developing their real-life character (as opposed to a
role), real-life relationships, and real-life skills. As much as I personally
love to perform, relationships for me have always trumped the thrill of
applause. The ovations of Juggle Jam 7 are still ringing in our ears,
and we should treasure that feeling in our hearts. But the greater treasure
is growing together before, during and after the natural high of performing.
I hope to see you in our new location this summer and fall, keeping the
dream alive to develop our youth, and nurture our unique community, through
juggling.
