“The Best of Times, the Worst of Times”

Although I’ve never read A Tale of Two Cities, the opening line is an all-time classic: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” To put it bluntly, that pretty much sums up my feelings about our juggling company right now. I’ve realized my goal of working with youth full time with a contagiously fun hobby as the excuse. Our expansion to six weekly Clubs and a year-round traveling Performance Team has gone remarkably well; our company is supported and held accountable by a advisory committee of dynamic and deeply committed parents; and best of all, the relationships within our Club are an oasis in an otherwise rocky period called adolescence.

Despite all this, our future is in jeapordy. We’re at a crossroads; no Youth Enrichment group has ever had permanent space in ECC. Therefore, we have three choices: set the precedent, settle elsewhere or acknowledge the defeat of this dream. I love these kids and the families I serve, and I don’t aim to give up easily. I will go about my challenging and joy-filled task of putting together our biggest annual show yet, trusting that whatever happens in September, we will have tasted the best of times together in 1999. Let’s pray these times endure.
