Back for its fourth year, Paul & Wendy Arneberg are offering a week-long overnight camp that will combine aspects of:
- our own juggling camps with some flavor of a juggling festival, featuring a versatile, double-wide gym facility;
- a church-based camp with morning small group Bible studies and evening large group Chapels with blended worship styles and teaching through Colossians; and
- big games and general recreation paralleling the bonding that is enjoyed by our SLT, UC, and immersed summer campers.
We are returning July 25–30, 2021, to the beautiful setting and hospitality at The ARC!
The ARC is located in northwestern Wisconsin along the beautiful St. Croix River Valley. The camp is about an hour from the Minneapolis-St Paul Metropolitan area and 8 miles south of Osceola, Wisconsin. From 1954-1975 the grounds where the ARC now stands served as a Radar Base for the USAF. At one time, over 350 men were based at the “Osceola Radar Base.” In 1979, the abandoned radar base was purchased by the Association of Free Lutheran Congregations (AFLC) to be used as a summer Bible Camp. Over the years the ARC has continued to expand its offerings and is now a year-round, full service camp and retreat center.
While our Juggling + Bible Camp is autonomous, we will be sharing the camp’s common spaces (e.g. the gym, dining hall, swimming lagoon, and free-time recreation amenities) with one or two other groups, but we will have our own dedicated building for breakfasts and lunches (dinners will be at the camp dining hall) and a gathering space. JBC is our own unique camp/festival/retreat/youth group all rolled in to one!
Our staff consists of Paul Arneberg serving as JBC Co-Director and Chapel Speaker; Wendy Arneberg as JBC Co-Director, with help from hospitality coordinators Beth Arneberg (our “JUGHEADS godmother”). Erica Liddle will serve as a Juggling Coach; decades-long friend of the company Scott Purser returns as our multi-prop Juggling Specialist/Workshop Leader; and Joyce Miller (Friday Rec. Club Specialist) as all-around Mom/Juggler/Encourager and Chapel Worship Leader.
PHONE POLICY: JBC WILL BE CELL PHONE-FREE for all campers. Please have your camper leave his/her cell phone at home or collect it when he or she is dropped off. Such a policy will liberate our campers from being tied to technology for these five-plus days & nights, and this actually mirrors what most other overnight youth camps routinely practice. The staff will have their own cell phones and intermittently check them each day for parent messages and/or to text a parent on behalf of a JBC youth. Even then, our staff will minimize cell phone use in order to focus on ministry, creation, and unplugging from daily cell phone dependency/addiction. (The ARC also has a full-time office staff that can deliver messages to us.) Campers wanting specific music during our juggling times can bring MP3 players or CDs. Please direct any questions or concerns to Paul or Wendy Arneberg.
Also, we don’t allow Airsoft or dart guns of any kind during JBC.
We anticipate the JBC group size to be 25–35 Jugheads currently in 5th-12th grade and will only hold JBC if we have 20 registered campers by June 30. All JBC registrations need to be finalized by 6/30/2021.
